About the Team.
We are a second year team from just north of Atlanta, Georgia. All members of team 5854 attend Forsyth Central High School. There are a total of 5 members on our team; all of us are juniors and have diverse talents ranging from programming and swimming to mechanical design and running and very combination in between. Our team is broken up into a few sub-teams and each person on the team in crediting with their specific role.
About the Members.
Ian Trobaugh was born in Atlanta, Georgia and currently attends school as a junior at Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, Georgia. Ian has been involved with robotics for nearly 7 years and this will the third in VEX. In addition to VEX, Ian has competed in FLL, where he competed at the state level with team member Trent Callan for several years. He has competed in FLL, VEX, BEST, and FRC. He also has worked with other programs such as FRC where he was one of the primary programmers for the 2013 robot. Ian became interested in robotics through the tech fair in elementary school. His favorite thing about VEX is designing. Ian takes nearly every advanced class he can and is a outstanding student. This year Ian will be in charge of directing the teams online challenges as well as being highly involved with the teams social media efforts.
Brandon Gross is a junior at Forsyth Central High School. This year will be his fourth year competing in the Vex robotics competition. Outside of VRC, Brandon has worked with FRC and BEST. He first became interested in robotics and engineering in his eighth grade year, when some of his friends asked him to join their robotics club. He became very serious about robotics his sophomore year when the vex team he was captain of made it to the VEX Robotics World Championship. He is currently lead programmer for Absolute Uncertainty. " My favorite part is writing some amazing code, and then finding a way to make it cleaner and better."
Trent Callan was born in Atlanta, Georgia and currently attends school as a junior at Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, Georgia. Trent Has been involved with robotics for five years, but has only competed in VRC for three. Outside of VEX Trent has worked with FLL, BEST, and FRC. Over the past two years he has been the captain of his school's FRC team. He first became interested in robotics when he was younger while playing with LEGO. In 6th grade he joined a private FLL team with team member Ian Trobaugh. That year the team would take 3rd place in the state competition and participated successful for several years after. “I really enjoy myself at robotics; I always want to be there and I cant get my mind off robotics. Something about seeing your solution to a problem come to life is really, really inspiring.” In and out of school Trent is an upstanding student, driving himself to excel in the STEM academy while participating in several varsity sports and extracurricular activities. This year Trent will be the lead on robotic design for the team.
Richard Garcia is a junior attending Forsyth Central High School. He has been participated in Vex robotics since 7th grade. Ever since then robotics has been his favorite extracurricular subject and club. In 9th grade he joined VEX Team 5854 where they made it to the VEX Robotics World Championships. He is now the head mechanic of Team 5854, Absolute Uncertainty. Additionally he has participated BEST and FRC, both of which he thoroughly enjoyed. He lives Cumming, Georgia with his family. He plans to enter the engineering field for his future career.
Caleb Puentes is currently a Junior at Forsyth Central High School. Caleb’s roles on his team include, managing a smooth running team schedule, driving the robot, and making sure everything is mechanically functioning. This will be Caleb’s second year in robotics, although he is very passionate and competitive about the success of himself and his team. He hopes to be division champion at the World Competition level, along with scoring a top 10 in both skills challenges at Worlds. Caleb enjoys playing video games, mentoring, and hanging out with his close friends.
